Tile Installation Miami

Tile Installation
in Miami.

Floor tile, wall tile, showers, backsplashes, and outdoor surfaces. Porcelain, ceramic, marble, travertine, and large format installed by specialists with 18 years in Miami-Dade and Broward.

What We Install

Every Type of
Tile Installation.

Fitoria handles tile installation across the full scope of residential work. We do not sell tile and we do not have a showroom. We are installers. You buy the tile from your supplier, or we source it for you, and our crew sets it.

Every installer on our crew specializes in tile and natural stone. We are not a general contractor who also does tile on the side. This is all we do, and we have been doing it in Miami for 18 years.

Floor Tile Installation

Full floor retile with self-leveling prep when needed. We handle continuous runs through open floor plans, transitions between rooms, and large format porcelain that requires laser-level flat substrates. Common in Coral Gables and Pinecrest whole-home renovations.

Wall Tile Installation

Accent walls, feature walls, and full wall cladding in porcelain slab, marble, or ceramic. Includes backer board prep, layout planning, and clean edge profiles using Schluter trim systems.

Shower Tile Installation

Complete shower enclosures with waterproof membrane, proper slope on the shower floor, niche framing and tile, and continuous waterproofing at every seam. We use Schluter-KERDI and Laticrete Hydro Ban on every shower.

Backsplash Installation

Kitchen and bathroom backsplashes in subway tile, mosaic, or large format slab. Tight cuts around outlets, windows, and cabinet edges. Typical kitchen backsplash installs run 1 to 3 days.

Outdoor Tile and Pavers

Patio, pool deck, and entryway tile using porcelain pavers or travertine rated for exterior use. Proper drainage slope, frost-resistant adhesive (for freeze/thaw in rare South Florida cold snaps), and non-slip surface finishes.

Materials We Work With

Every Tile Material
We Handle.

Porcelain Tile

The most common material we install in Miami homes. Porcelain is dense, low-absorption, and holds up well in high humidity. Rectified porcelain allows for tight grout joints and a clean, modern look. We install everything from 12x24 standard format up to 48x48 large format porcelain.

Ceramic Tile

A solid, cost-effective option for walls, backsplashes, and lighter-traffic floors. Ceramic is easier to cut and lighter than porcelain, which makes it practical for wall applications. We set ceramic with the same precision and substrate prep as any other material.

Marble and Natural Stone

Carrara, Calacatta, Statuario, and other natural marbles for floors, walls, and showers. Marble requires sealing and careful handling during installation to avoid chipping and staining. We have 18 years of experience working with natural stone in Miami homes.

Travertine

Popular for outdoor patios, pool decks, and entryways throughout Miami-Dade. Travertine stays cool underfoot in direct sun, which is why so many homes in Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay use it around pools. We fill and seal travertine on site when needed.

Large Format Slabs

Porcelain slabs from 48x48 up to 63x126 inches. These require specialized handling equipment, perfectly flat substrates, and experienced setters. We use MAPEI large format thinset and Schluter uncoupling membranes to prevent cracking. Not every crew can handle this size. We can.

Mosaic and Specialty Tile

Glass mosaic, penny round, herringbone, chevron, and other pattern tiles for shower floors, niches, accent bands, and decorative walls. Mosaic work is detail-intensive and time-consuming. Layout and grout line consistency matter more here than on any other format.

Miami Climate

Why Installation
Method Matters Here.

South Florida is not a forgiving environment for tile. Humidity runs above 75% most of the year. Concrete slab foundations shift and settle. Summer temperatures swing from 95 degrees outdoors to 72 degrees inside air-conditioned rooms. All of this puts stress on tile installations that were not done correctly.

Most homes in Miami-Dade sit on concrete slab foundations, not wood subfloor. That means different prep, different adhesives, and different movement joint planning. We use MAPEI Kerabond/Keralastic and Laticrete 254 Platinum for standard sets, and MAPEI Ultralite S2 for large format tile. These are flexible, polymer-modified thinsets rated for the thermal cycling that Miami slabs go through.

Cheap thinset and skipped substrate prep are the two most common reasons tile pops, cracks, or develops hollow spots within a few years. We see it constantly on repair calls in Kendall and Doral where previous installers cut corners.

Concrete Slab Prep

Most Miami homes are built on slab. We grind high spots, fill low spots, and apply self-leveling compound when the slab is out of tolerance. For large format tile, the floor must be flat within 1/8 inch over 10 feet.

Humidity and Moisture

High humidity means grout and thinset cure differently here than in dry climates. We adjust open times, use polymer-modified products, and never set tile on a slab that has not been tested for moisture vapor emission.

Thermal Movement

Concrete slabs in Miami expand and contract with temperature changes. We plan movement joints at transitions, perimeters, and every 20 to 25 feet in continuous runs per TCNA guidelines. Skipping this step is the number one cause of cracked tile in Florida homes.

Waterproofing in Wet Areas

Every shower and wet area gets a full waterproof membrane. Schluter-KERDI sheet or Laticrete Hydro Ban liquid applied. No exceptions. Florida Building Code requires it, and Miami-Dade inspectors check for it.

"Tile installed wrong fails in two years. Tile installed right lasts the life of the house."

The Process

How a Tile
Installation Works.

Every tile installation follows the same core sequence. The specifics change based on the material, the room, and the substrate condition, but the steps do not get skipped.

01

On-Site Estimate

We visit the home, measure the space, check the existing substrate, and discuss material and layout. You get a written scope and price with line items, not a rough number over the phone.

02

Substrate Preparation

Existing flooring is removed if needed. The concrete slab is ground, patched, and leveled. For floors, we apply self-leveling compound when the slab is out of spec. For showers, we install backer board and waterproof membrane.

03

Layout and Dry Fit

Tile is dry-laid to plan the pattern, check cuts, and confirm the starting point. This step prevents awkward slivers at walls and ensures the layout is balanced across the room. On large format jobs, this step is critical.

04

Tile Setting

Thinset is mixed and applied with the correct trowel size for the tile format. Each tile is back-buttered and set with leveling clips to prevent lippage. We work in sections and check alignment continuously.

05

Grouting and Sealing

After the thinset cures (typically 24 hours), grout is applied, cleaned, and sealed. Sanded grout for floors, unsanded for tight joints. Natural stone gets sealed before and after grouting to prevent staining.

06

Final Walkthrough

We walk the completed installation with you, check every detail, and address anything before we call it done. Leftover tile is organized and left with you for future repairs.

Tile Installation FAQs

Standard porcelain or ceramic floor tile installation runs $8 to $15 per square foot for labor. Marble and natural stone runs $15 to $25 per square foot. Large format tile (over 24x48) runs $12 to $20 per square foot because of the extra substrate prep and handling. These are labor costs only. Material is separate. Floor leveling, when needed, adds $3 to $7 per square foot. We provide a written estimate with line items before any work starts.

A single room floor retile in a Miami home typically takes 3 to 5 days including substrate prep, setting, and grouting. A full home floor retile across 1,000 to 1,500 square feet runs 2 to 3 weeks. Shower tile with waterproofing takes 5 to 8 days. Backsplash installs run 1 to 3 days. These timelines assume materials are on site when we start.

It depends on the condition of your slab. Most homes in Miami-Dade are built on concrete slab foundations, and older slabs often have high spots, low spots, or overall slope issues. For standard 12x24 tile, the floor needs to be flat within 1/4 inch over 10 feet. For large format tile, the tolerance is 1/8 inch over 10 feet. We check this during the estimate and include leveling in the scope if it is needed.

Rectified porcelain is the most practical choice for most rooms in a Miami home. It handles humidity, heavy foot traffic, and temperature swings without absorbing moisture. For outdoor areas like patios and pool decks, porcelain pavers or travertine rated for exterior use work well. Marble is a good option for bathrooms and low-traffic areas but requires annual sealing. We walk through material options during the estimate based on where the tile is going.

Yes. In most cases, we remove the existing tile and adhesive down to the concrete slab before installing new tile. Setting new tile over old tile is not recommended because it raises the floor height, can cause bonding issues, and hides substrate problems. Demo and haul-off are included in our scope unless you arrange removal separately.

We can do either. Many homeowners in Coral Gables, Pinecrest, and Coconut Grove purchase tile from their preferred supplier and have it delivered to the home before we start. We can also source tile for you through our supplier network. Either way, we verify quantities, check lot numbers for consistency, and inspect the material before installation begins.
